Buddy had proven to us that a dog could be a valuable member of the team. <br /><p></p><p></p><p>Shortly after we lost Buddy we got a call about a potential successor. We picked him and was cute and furry and everything a puppy is supposed to be.</p><p></p><p>My wife had that idea to name him after one of the Master Clowns that helped form the Brigade. So we have a mostly bull dog named Herman. As an extra layer of fun he is named after someone who did not really like dogs. </p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p>.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOgP6ojMFG9DZ6CH3FGRQd8dtVcD-WXusFUWQtPAJr0k5AqhcHwXC46VuMlF5E04-3Gtxi2rhnBUXYXN0SXxjsLowj6NZjK_pO_pVXgNK4U0kJYqgTv_FNhJrcNG1APUqTXEoKJY0VgHNb_SneqtjdPTNMxjEfuzzKPDBspVKj4wqgQe_7NjmPeDNvKYA/s4160/20240114_153317%20(1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4160" data-original-width="3120" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOgP6ojMFG9DZ6CH3FGRQd8dtVcD-WXusFUWQtPAJr0k5AqhcHwXC46VuMlF5E04-3Gtxi2rhnBUXYXN0SXxjsLowj6NZjK_pO_pVXgNK4U0kJYqgTv_FNhJrcNG1APUqTXEoKJY0VgHNb_SneqtjdPTNMxjEfuzzKPDBspVKj4wqgQe_7NjmPeDNvKYA/s320/20240114_153317%20(1).jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br />As a fun aside animals have their own rank system that resembles the one for clowns. So at this point Herman would be a Cadet and honorary members of the group. He will become an apprentice when he gets his Therapy Animal Certification. He was not just a good dog and a therapy animal, he was a good soul.<br /><br /> He spent most of his life locked in a box in a subpar puppy mill. Our best guess was that he spent 8 to 10 years there. He broke out by forcing his way through a cage causing himself terrible injuries. He showed up at the Brigade’s House thirty pounds underweight, and barely able to walk. I called animal control, and they told me he was so injured that they would have to put him down.<br /><br /> We took him to our vet, and he mostly recovered from his injuries. His presence did alert the police to the terrible conditions of the puppy mill. His former owner claimed Buddy was not his dog, to avoid additional charges, nor did he want to pay the vet bills. Thus, we got to keep him.<br /><br /> We tried naming him Neal, but the only thing he would respond to was Buddy. He didn’t bark, he didn’t bite. If ever there was a dog that should be mad at Humans, it was him. For reasons I do not understand, he loved everyone he met. He was the best example of unconditional love I have ever personally known.<br /><br /> He really enjoyed attending the MACA Conventions. I am personally greatful for him being allowed to attend. He was so happy to come to the hotel because he knew a bunch would love him there. After we let him go, my wife and I sat and went through our last pictures of him. They were all of him being happy at the convention. <br /><br /> I have worked with elephants, parrots, horses, and cats from tigers to house cats. Buddy was the best. Buddy loved being around people more than any of the others. I only wish he had more time to do the work that he loved. <br /> <p></p>Zhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10552432763067040023noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-468857603879677676.post-61497475132492373822023-12-15T01:30:00.000-08:002024-02-05T01:40:00.551-08:00A New Order<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjg-gNzqjFXQvvb587XSKtA05klkLAce8E8gt34mEgCRVpVZhXtjjGau4CbLaZSpPao8xw1S29nac_xcPxPq_ylokfs0cMSESCauMhbAoqS9urUd-62HFfV62uuEZtPDp-iU7k6Y6cEz7dH5Q3ic5-NToym7lLgY1lXvrExTtNQroxOEAmBTVoBzyn86Y8/s1867/ABC%20Shield.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1867" data-original-width="1163" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjg-gNzqjFXQvvb587XSKtA05klkLAce8E8gt34mEgCRVpVZhXtjjGau4CbLaZSpPao8xw1S29nac_xcPxPq_ylokfs0cMSESCauMhbAoqS9urUd-62HFfV62uuEZtPDp-iU7k6Y6cEz7dH5Q3ic5-NToym7lLgY1lXvrExTtNQroxOEAmBTVoBzyn86Y8/w248-h400/ABC%20Shield.png" width="248" /></a></div>The Steel City Clown Brigade was once part of a larger group that no longer exists. That organization maintained the curriculum we use to train new clown, bought insurance, made equipment and those sorts of things. <p></p><p>Without them we have been doing that sort of thing ourselves. With possibility of forming a couple new Brigades over the next couple years we have decided to try and restart some bit of that glory. </p><p>It was Bayley Brown from SCCB that came up with the new name for what will one day be our parent organization. These are very important to new people to the group. They will be Tuesday at 6:00 PM in the Clown office or online. If you are attending online please let me know so I can send you the materials that go with each class. The more physical classes like locomotion and clown pantomime will be during the Sunday juggling practice at CMU. </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2AADygUglsXqdjQgjBIRhsaPrhoG9EWOw5iFnZhH7hHS5yFeV-BT2VXAZ01yPWcejrzvKdhnm5Zr7PPG1WF8kSgtYZBj8M1g2I6SyyJdgicT3ur43QDh2c710KOdyZuO6hdG6Enyu640WMYGgoVSG_tJGzGAWWIAj1alB6JAHZMH3a7aHCGipSYFi/s3831/Juggling%20Panther.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3831" data-original-width="2661" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2AADygUglsXqdjQgjBIRhsaPrhoG9EWOw5iFnZhH7hHS5yFeV-BT2VXAZ01yPWcejrzvKdhnm5Zr7PPG1WF8kSgtYZBj8M1g2I6SyyJdgicT3ur43QDh2c710KOdyZuO6hdG6Enyu640WMYGgoVSG_tJGzGAWWIAj1alB6JAHZMH3a7aHCGipSYFi/s320/Juggling%20Panther.png" width="222" /></a></div>The website calendar has been updated to reflect the new classes and the juggling meetings at Pitt. By the way Pitt, finally, has a juggling club again. The old folks, like myself will remeber fondly going to Pitt and throwing things around at the Cathedral of Learning. It has all sorts of interesting problem including fighting, evil clowns and other difficulties. Sadly it has not been up the last couple years. <p></p><p> Well we figure how hard can the internet be? There is no way we are going to regret that thought. So we are launching <a href="http://clownforum.org">clownforum.org</a>. Links to the meetings are on the schedule page of this website. </p><p>If you are tuning in for a juggling class we recommend 3 juggling balls that are comfortable for you. If you are tuning in for a balloon class we recommend 260 style balloon and 2 way air pump. </p><p></p><p>If you have any classes that you would like to see please let me know. We are going to install 3 more drawers and hangers for clubs. There are a couple door stops installed as brakes and can help level the stand if on uneven ground.<p></p><p> For fun we are going to use some wooden spools for drawer pulls. The spools are from the old Clark Thread Company before they were merged with Coats. It will be a nice memento from out time making masks. Maybe we will be able to stop doing that at some point. <br /></p><p></p><p>We are going to take the stand down to Twelve and stand some kettle to see how it works. <br /> </p><p>I will let you know how it goes <br /></p>Zhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10552432763067040023noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-468857603879677676.post-31350104553116254802021-06-28T16:10:00.000-07:002021-06-28T16:11:19.867-07:00Work Continues<p>We continued to work on the new Kettle Stand Today.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBBozYYotpOCqccZQNHWBWaHc9uqkCFTJkY56OHH3_7-165Ii0gIfS_DVgP5DHL4nOGMG4GT8boBWXlh6y9Pep5Gd6UQbd-K2Hkwkajd8bauk_aqqKCnjH7DVbUxtehgyRYF3dkcgDIY8/s2048/20210628_171207.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBBozYYotpOCqccZQNHWBWaHc9uqkCFTJkY56OHH3_7-165Ii0gIfS_DVgP5DHL4nOGMG4GT8boBWXlh6y9Pep5Gd6UQbd-K2Hkwkajd8bauk_aqqKCnjH7DVbUxtehgyRYF3dkcgDIY8/s320/20210628_171207.jpg" /></a></div> <p></p><p>This is the top and front of the stand. The new stand is two and half times as wide as the old stand. the front of the new stand is going to be mostly white. Eventually, we will paint our name and logo on the front of the stand. This will likely happen when we find someone with a steadier hand than me. In the mean time we will attached laminated sinnage like the old stand. </p><p>There are several compartments on the new stand. There is one for the props we light on fire. This is ventilated comparment to help the props dry out after use. It has hangers for a set of torches and a Devil Stick. I have not installed the hanger for poi yet. </p><p>The middle lower compartment is for fuel and the fire extinguisher. For some reason people like to snatch the fire extinguisher. Any way it will have and interior place so that it is hidden away. </p><p>On the right hand side is a compartment for clubs, devil sticks and the rest of the juggling props. You can store nine clubs and three or for devil sticks in this compartment. We are looking at some new devil stick and maybe a diablo. So I have not installed hangers in this compartment yet. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEig4zbP6e0H0-PqCUM0uZvdueKKZMb1IFC0QcrBH9vJ9_s5ty5mU7JCE3VVHSl34F9RlvUXkObEi_UHTsfkOlHd0aDTPCniRZR3nSGZpjtPrHJFDwlsrzwysoIl9L9j2SpVvr1y-ohrmrw/s2048/20210628_171150.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEig4zbP6e0H0-PqCUM0uZvdueKKZMb1IFC0QcrBH9vJ9_s5ty5mU7JCE3VVHSl34F9RlvUXkObEi_UHTsfkOlHd0aDTPCniRZR3nSGZpjtPrHJFDwlsrzwysoIl9L9j2SpVvr1y-ohrmrw/s320/20210628_171150.jpg" /></a></div><p>Above the fuel compartment will be three or four drawers. This was the biggest issue with old stand. There were two open shelves that everything else fit on. Pens, air pumps and other little things would get lost in a big pile of stuff. With cutting edge drawer technology we will be able to seperate items. We will have a drawer for balls, a couple for magic props and a stuff drawer. So there will be a place for pens, business cards and all the little things we would loose in the old stand. Pictures to the left are two of our sleek cutting edge drawers.</p><p> To the best of my knowledge we will have the first kettle stand in the world with drawers. So that is exciting. </p><p> We if you want to get a tour of the world most advanced Kettle Stand come by and visit us at Twelve this 4th of July week end. You can celebrate our nations birthday and drawers. <br /></p><p><br /></p><p><span></span> <br /></p><p> <br /><br /></p>Zhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10552432763067040023noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-468857603879677676.post-66364234606573290902021-06-26T12:53:00.001-07:002021-06-26T12:53:33.029-07:00Standing Kettle Again<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-vrVrNxFzUTptEIQZj-uDkEWmHUTBAodn1WaSRdNrHKOJ1vq_gmw13mVZ1PEcGaxWJKP7I-Tp1qE2faVOTH0FQQ-WIGoNiFpppzMZqPaXco5QakQqUZGZj3hUrxUHbBUDuk18_Hev2E0/s2048/20210626_133404.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-vrVrNxFzUTptEIQZj-uDkEWmHUTBAodn1WaSRdNrHKOJ1vq_gmw13mVZ1PEcGaxWJKP7I-Tp1qE2faVOTH0FQQ-WIGoNiFpppzMZqPaXco5QakQqUZGZj3hUrxUHbBUDuk18_Hev2E0/s320/20210626_133404.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>With the easing of Covid restriction we are going to head out for some fund raising. For the foreseeable future we will be having our meetings online because of the pandemic. We are also going to be giving selling balls online another chance. So if you need balls you will be able to buy them at our online store. </p><p><br /></p><p>The link for the online juggling is: <span><span class="inv-meeting-url"> <a href="https://global.gotomeeting.com/join/678479109" target="_blank">https://global.gotomeeting.com/join/678479109</a></span></span></p><p><span><span class="inv-meeting-url"> I hope you can drop by. <br /></span></span></p>Zhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10552432763067040023noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-468857603879677676.post-36345149659119112072020-12-20T16:41:00.003-08:002020-12-20T16:41:59.822-08:00Christmas Masks<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkq1X7jq7dNb-QJ5f9y-5Ic0FR_LC9dNEYiMtaz4CNDFd1H9P-K64WDJ4GEhMeZ59x3CjisI02KKEOIqH6WdPtHfG2buOP1zh4bD9UgG8WWUk3RARuer4Y4waAzcjRb5hNsHmj962YUd0/s2048/Christmas+Masks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1152" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkq1X7jq7dNb-QJ5f9y-5Ic0FR_LC9dNEYiMtaz4CNDFd1H9P-K64WDJ4GEhMeZ59x3CjisI02KKEOIqH6WdPtHfG2buOP1zh4bD9UgG8WWUk3RARuer4Y4waAzcjRb5hNsHmj962YUd0/s320/Christmas+Masks.jpg" /></a></div> We have a buch of Christmas Masks made in the Panier Style. This is our first attempt that came out rather nicely. <p></p><p><span> </span>We hope that being able to personalize the masks will convince more people to wear them. </p><p><span> </span>This particular mask is a birthday present for the daughter of one of our volunteers. We only had purple thread. We are definitely going to find some lavender thread and make her a mask using that. </p><p> </p><p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTIagYrLt2XH1a1_-aInLXcUa3tq3fiowB1E6XFeGOCR7Sipf_qMAcjSt0Ttx0ex3B7o_goYa5wHlHW-MrbnlXkqXStdNi-D-4wYRzfV7aT16mbSapjXU0RyJkGpUl3iSGuh0ujSRarY0/s2048/20200818_165524%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1152" data-original-width="2048" height="282" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTIagYrLt2XH1a1_-aInLXcUa3tq3fiowB1E6XFeGOCR7Sipf_qMAcjSt0Ttx0ex3B7o_goYa5wHlHW-MrbnlXkqXStdNi-D-4wYRzfV7aT16mbSapjXU0RyJkGpUl3iSGuh0ujSRarY0/s640/20200818_165524%255B1%255D.jpg" width="502" /></a></div><p> </p><p> </p><p><span> <span> </span>Miss Fields took whirl on the new machine as well. Pictured toth e left is Miss Fields taking a break from making Panier Style Masks for adolescents. These are make from a cow jumping over the moon print fabric. This fabric was donated a week ago with a large stash of prints and other fun things. <p></p><p><span> </span>Miss Fields is also sitting at a new Kenmore Machine she has named Lacy. This machine is purring like a kitten. It was donated by someone from the nextdoor website. This was very generous and really helps us out. We are now getting to the point where we need to have machines repaired on a regular basis. We can now have three machines going at once and do not loose time to repairs. </p><p> <span> </span>Lacy also came with a sewing machine cabinet with several accessories and drawers. We have had a lot of luck with older machines. I beginning to wonder why people buy new sewing machines at all. </p><p><span></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQ9RXB0FkFzmET-n-5DLD82p8u1AEn88tAcih1sTZlvIE8KuAx0SEXAgGcH1Jfna-Z6wGt1FlzMmGeQa2rJ8NLzkyg_PRXrRb8d3yA5U916L9DTXchcnXbcR2wJ1Wk-mWhQZg405xiInc/s2048/IMG_20200730_183240056.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="141" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQ9RXB0FkFzmET-n-5DLD82p8u1AEn88tAcih1sTZlvIE8KuAx0SEXAgGcH1Jfna-Z6wGt1FlzMmGeQa2rJ8NLzkyg_PRXrRb8d3yA5U916L9DTXchcnXbcR2wJ1Wk-mWhQZg405xiInc/s640/IMG_20200730_183240056.jpg" width="188" /></a></div> We also h/ad some good news from Duke University. They did a study on several styles of homemade mask. Our new Panier Style mask was only beaten by professionally fitted N95 Masks. Our Extended Olson also did very well. Still, it is nice to know that all the extra effort that goes into a Panier Style Mask is worth it. If it is going to be a pain in the neck to make them it is nice the extra effort is worth something. <p></p><p><span> The other nice thing about the study is that we are using the right material in the masks.</span> This was more a guess on our part so it is mostly dumb luck. We will have to avoid using cotton fleece in the future. Even so we ran out it three months ago. </p><p> <span> </span>I would once again like to thank everyone that is donating to our cause. The fabric and machines have really given us the ability to punch above our weight in this crisis. If we were using our one machine and what ever fabric we could buy would would not have reach a thousand masks let alone be closing in on 3,000 masks.</p><p><span> </span>So be safe out there everyone.<br /></p><p><span> </span><br /></p>Zhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10552432763067040023noreply@blogger.com0
